After a first event that will take place in Saint-Barth on Sunday, April 23, 2023, the participants are preparing for the competition in Saint-Martin. It is important to note that to win the title of champion, teams must have already participated in the challenge of Saint-Barthélemy, with the condition that both members of the pair are residents of the Northern Islands. However, St. Martin athletes can still participate in the April 30 competition to try to win the St. Martin event without having participated in the St. Barts event.

The concept of the Swimrun is to cover a varied route by alternating running and swimming, in pairs (women, men or mixed). The team members must stay at a maximum distance of 10 meters and wear their equipment during the entire event, including pull-buoy/float, swimming pads, goggles and swim cap. Fins are allowed to increase the chances of moving quickly in the water, provided they are also worn during the running phases.

The final of Saint-Martin will start at 6:30 am in Galisbay with a first race of 12 km to the beach of Friar’s Bay. The swim will then take over for 2 km to Happy Bay, where a second run will be launched towards Grand-Case. The following phases will pass through Petite Plage, Anse Marcel and Mont Vernon to finally reach the finish line at Coco Beach in Orient Bay.

Registrations are open to people holding a French Triathlon Federation license or a competition pass, and can be done at the Trisport store and at the One Love store. The registration fee is 50€. A bus will leave from Coco Beach, partner of the competition, to bring the participants to the departure of Galisbay.

After a beginning of season marked by an early and important production of sargassum, the strandings of these brown algae should reduce in the days to come for Saint-Martin. Satellite images from March 27, 2023 show small, scattered rafts of Sargassum, pushed by a prevailing easterly flow over the first 15 to 25 km east of the two islands.
