978 Beach Lounge
Friar's Bay Beach, French side
A Creole beach lounge on calm Friar's Bay
978 Beach Lounge sits at the end of Friar’s Bay, a small sheltered bay on the French side, between Marigot and Grand Case. It took over the spot of the former Kali’s Beach Bar, a place longtime island visitors know well. Sun loungers, umbrellas and hanging chairs facing the water: people come here to spend a quiet day, away from the busy big beaches.
The food is Creole. The house specialty is grilled meats and big platters to share, with accras and tapas for happy hour. At the bar, there is a list of tropical cocktails and house punches, best enjoyed on a lounger by the water. 978 Beach Lounge is the sister of 978 Sanctorum, the Creole restaurant in Rambaud.
The water at Friar’s Bay is calm, clear and shallow, which makes it a good place to swim with kids. Some nights, the beach also hosts DJ parties, especially on full moon nights.
The restaurant is open every day: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Hours can change in the low season and on party nights, so check its Facebook page or send a WhatsApp message to +590 690 82 80 00 before you go, especially for a group. You can also email contact@978sxm.com. The road down to Friar’s Bay is narrow and winding, so drive slowly.
