Good to know

  • Arrive early on weekends: the best-known beach clubs fill up fast in high season.
  • On the Dutch side, read the bill: a 15% service charge is often already added. See language and tipping.
  • Ask the rate before paying in dollars: on the French side, some bars count one dollar as one euro, others use a less favorable rate.
  • Don’t drive after cocktails: plan a taxi back.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the best beach bars in St. Maarten?

Most are on Orient Bay Beach, in Grand Case and in Simpson Bay. Maho, Mullet Bay, Nettle Bay and the Philipsburg Boardwalk also have toes-in-the-sand spots.

Can I spend the whole day there?

Yes: most serve lunch and drinks all day, and many have loungers and umbrellas. Ask on site about their terms.

Do I need a reservation?

For lunch at a beach club on weekends or in high season, it is a good idea. For a drink at the bar, usually not.

Where can I watch the sunset with a drink?

On the west-facing beaches, such as Simpson Bay, Maho, Mullet Bay or Grand Case.
