Nettle Bay
Between Marigot, Sandy Ground and Terres Basses
Nettle Bay, a practical beach area between lagoon and sea
Nettle Bay sits on the long strip of land connecting Marigot, Sandy Ground and Terres Basses. It is less of a postcard beach and more of a practical area for staying nearby, getting around and enjoying the water late in the day.
The area has two faces: on one side, Simpson Bay Lagoon, with restaurants, hotels, residences and watersports depending on the venue; on the other, the Caribbean Sea, with more open sandy sections and attractive sunsets. Access varies between hotels, residences and small public paths.
For swimming, check the shoreline before entering the water. Some sections can be calm and pleasant in good weather, while others may be narrow, rocky, grassy, affected by surge or seaweed depending on the season. Nettle Bay works well for a short stop, a walk, sunset drinks or a central place to stay; it is less suitable if you are looking for a wide wild beach.
Its main advantage is location. You are only a few minutes from Marigot, Baie Rouge, Baie Longue and the road toward Maho / Simpson Bay. For a vacation base, it is a convenient starting point for exploring the western side of the island.
Bring sun protection, water and light shoes if you plan to walk along access points. Do not block residence entrances, respect private areas and check sea conditions before settling in with children.
