Baie Rouge Beach

Terres Basses, French side of Saint-Martin

A wild gem between cliffs and the Caribbean Sea

Tucked away in the prestigious Terres Basses area on the western tip of the French side, Baie Rouge is one of the most spectacular and unspoiled beaches on the island. Its name hints at the subtle pink hue the sand can take on depending on the sunlight, creating a striking contrast with the deep blue of the Caribbean Sea.

What immediately stands out at Baie Rouge is the complete absence of tourist infrastructure. No beach bars, no rows of sun loungers: nature reigns supreme here. The beach is framed by towering cliffs that partially shelter it from the wind and give it an intimate, majestic atmosphere. The sand is wide and generous, giving way to crystal-clear, incredibly photogenic waters.

Access is by car from Baie Nettlé, following a long straight road then a signposted track. A colourfully painted staircase on the right leads directly down to the beach, adding an unexpected artistic touch to the wild scenery.

Depending on weather conditions, the face of Baie Rouge can change from one day to the next. A powerful shore break is almost always present: waves crash hard at the edge and the slope into deeper water is steep. Before laying down your towel, watch carefully how far the water comes up the beach.

Baie Rouge is the perfect beach for lovers of raw natural landscapes, spectacular photos and absolute tranquillity. However, it is less suitable for young children or inexperienced swimmers when the swell picks up.
