Captain Frenchy
The signature beach bar of Grand Case
Captain Frenchy by Fred, or simply Captain Frenchy for regulars, is one of the most popular beach bars on Grand Case Beach, in the heart of the gourmet village on the French side of the island. Easy to spot thanks to its colorful picnic tables, its "Tahiti / Toronto" signpost and its laid-back vibe, it is the perfect spot to spend the day with your feet in the sand, facing the turquoise sea and Pinel Island in the distance.
The concept is simple and well-tuned: a large wooden deck open to the beach, a thatched beach bar, sunbeds and umbrellas for rent along the sand, and a friendly service led by Fred, François and their team. Pluses: fresh-water shower, clean restrooms, valet parking on weekends, shared village parking and direct access from Boulevard de Grand Case.
Lunch is generous beach food: mussels and fries in cream sauce, house burger, niçoise salad, beef and tuna tartare, tataki, grilled ribs, seafood platter, fresh fish of the day and seasonal lobster. The bar serves crafted G'Vine gin cocktails, ti-punch, planter's punch and a great rosé list. Few beach bars in Grand Case offer this kind of value.
The mood shifts in the evening: sunset over the bay, dinner on the sand and a buzzing beach scene. From Thursday to Saturday, the restaurant stays open until 10 p.m. with live music and DJ sets on the beach. Reservations are recommended for lunch in high season and required for weekend dinner.
