Anse Marcel Beach

Anse Marcel, sheltered bay on the northern French side of Saint Martin

Anse Marcel, a sheltered bay for calm swimming

Anse Marcel is one of the most sheltered beaches on the French side of Saint Martin. Set at the back of a U-shaped bay and framed by green hills, it feels calmer and more tucked away than Orient Bay while still offering enough facilities for a comfortable beach day.

The sea is often gentler here than on the exposed east-coast beaches. In good conditions, the water is clear, the entry is gradual and swimming suits couples, families and visitors looking for a reassuring bay. The rocky ends can also be worth a short snorkel, staying close to shore.

Access is by Rue de l'Anse Marcel, a paved but steep and winding road descending from the Cul-de-Sac area. It is manageable in daylight with careful driving, but requires more attention at night or in rain. A rental car is the simplest option if you are staying in Grand Case, Orient Bay, Marigot or Simpson Bay.

On site, the experience depends on the season and which venues are open: beach restaurants, loungers, umbrellas, nearby hotels, Lonvilliers marina and possible water activities. The beach is public, but some access and parking areas pass through hotel or residential zones; follow signs and check day conditions if needed.

Anse Marcel is a strong choice for a quiet beach day, lunch with your feet in the sand or a swim with less wind. For a more nature-focused outing, combine it with the Froussards trail toward Petites Cayes or with a Pinel Island trip from Cul-de-Sac.
