Grandes Cayes Beach

Nature Reserve, northeast Saint Martin, near Cul-de-Sac

Grandes Cayes, a wild beach facing the Atlantic

Grandes Cayes is a natural beach on the northeast side of Saint Martin, in the Cul-de-Sac area and close to the Nature Reserve. It sits near Étang aux Poissons and can be used as one of the starting areas for the Froussards trail toward Petites Cayes. The mood is simple: pale sand, dry hills, rocks, often striking water colors and very few facilities.

Choose this beach for walking, fresh air, coastal views and a rougher setting than the island's serviced beaches. Grandes Cayes can be beautiful in calm seas, including for a short swim or snorkeling near rocky sections, but it remains exposed to northeast wind and swell. Conditions can change quickly: if waves are strong, stay on the sand.

Access is through the Cul-de-Sac area, then by a local road or track depending on current conditions. A car is useful, but drive slowly and avoid going too far if the track is damaged after rain. Parking is informal, with no organized beach car park and no services on site.

Bring water, sun protection, sturdy sandals or shoes, a trash bag and everything you need to be independent. There is no restaurant, restroom, shower, lounger rental or lifeguard. Shade is limited, especially around midday.

Grandes Cayes is best for travelers looking for a nature beach that pairs well with Cul-de-Sac, Pinel Island, Anse Marcel or a hike toward Petites Cayes. For young children or a comfortable full beach day, pick a more sheltered and serviced bay.
