Embouchure Bay

Between Le Galion, Étang aux Poissons and Orient Bay on Saint Martin's east coast

Embouchure Bay, a wild landscape between lagoon and Atlantic

Embouchure Bay is not a classic lounging beach. It is a wide natural landscape on Saint Martin's east coast, between Le Galion, Étang aux Poissons and the Orient Bay area. Expect shallow water, reef sections, sandbanks, seagrass, open views and a much wilder mood than the island's serviced beaches.

This spot is most interesting for visitors who enjoy walking, watching the light over the lagoon, understanding the island's Atlantic shoreline or taking photos. Depending on season and conditions, nearby wetland areas can also be good for birdlife. It pairs well with a stop at Le Galion or Orient Bay, but it is not necessarily where you set up for a full beach day.

Swimming is not always recommended. The bay is wind-exposed, the bottom can be uneven, currents shift with swell and sargassum can strongly affect the shoreline. If the water is rough, cloudy or heavy with seaweed, keep it as a walking stop and swim at a more sheltered beach.

Access is via local roads and tracks around the Galion / French Quarter / Orient Bay area, depending on where you want to stop. Parking is informal and tracks can be rough after rain. Drive slowly, avoid blocking access and do not enter sensitive reserve areas.

Bring shoes, water, sun protection, a hat and a bag for trash. There are no regular facilities, loungers, restrooms or lifeguards. Embouchure Bay is best treated as a nature pause rather than a family swimming beach.
