Mary's Boon
Simpson Bay Beach's best-kept secret
The Boon Beach Bar & Restaurant, better known as Mary's Boon, is one of Simpson Bay's longest-running addresses. Tucked away at the quieter west end of the beach, away from the bigger beach clubs, this small family-run hotel and restaurant has been welcoming visitors since the early 1970s and remains one of the island's best-kept secrets.
The vibe is deliberately laid-back: painted tables in Caribbean colors, island flags fluttering above the bar, sand under your feet and an open view of the bay and passing yachts. Sunbeds and umbrellas are complimentary with a meal or drinks, which makes The Boon a great base for a full beach day without paying the premium of the nearby beach clubs.
The kitchen leans on seafood and Caribbean comfort food: grilled mahi-mahi, red snapper sandwich, fried calamari, ribs, tacos, fresh salads and the popular mango chicken salad often praised by travelers. At the bar, expect island cocktails, ice-cold Carib beers and a solid rum selection. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11:30 a.m. — a rare perk on this stretch of beach.
Practical tip: come early for breakfast on the sand, stay for lunch and a swim, or book an evening table for the sunset. The place stays small and intimate, so a reservation is recommended for dinner and required for groups of 8 or more.
