Beekeeping initiation in Saint-Martin: a unique experience with the bees
On April 21 and 22, Siwo Myel SXM and Bee Academy SXM are offering a beekeeping initiation in Saint-Martin. Adult and children sessions are planned, with hive discovery, local honey tasting and pollination awareness.

On April 21 and 22, a beekeeping initiation will be offered in Saint-Martin, in partnership with Siwo Myel SXM and Bee Academy SXM. A rare opportunity to discover the world of bees up close, understand their vital role for the environment and learn the basics of beekeeping.

What to expect

Led by an experienced beekeeper, these sessions will offer a hands-on and accessible approach. On the program:

  • Beekeeping equipment discovery: bee suit, smoker, frames, and everything that makes up a beekeeper's toolkit.
  • How a hive works: colony organization, the role of the queen, worker bees and drones.
  • Pollination and biodiversity: why bees are essential to the balance of island vegetation, particularly fragile in the Caribbean where pollination ecosystems rely on a limited number of species.
  • Local honey tasting: an opportunity to taste Saint-Martin honey, a product known for its unique character, shaped by the island's tropical flora.

Practical information

Two sessions are planned, adapted for each audience:

  • Adult session: Monday, April 21, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Price: €90.
  • Children's session: Wednesday, April 22, from 8 AM to 11 AM. Price: €80.

Places are limited. It is recommended to book in advance.

Why bees matter in Saint-Martin

On a tropical island like Saint-Martin, pollinators play a crucial role. Caribbean island ecosystems are more vulnerable than continental ones, as they rely on less diverse pollinator communities. The presence and health of bees directly influence the reproduction of many local fruit trees and plants.

Several passionate beekeepers currently maintain hives on the island, capturing and protecting wild colonies to preserve this delicate balance. This type of initiation helps raise public awareness, from a young age, about the importance of this activity.

A holiday activity idea

Whether you are a resident or visiting during the Easter holidays, this experience is off the beaten path. It is an original way to discover Saint-Martin differently, getting as close as possible to nature and a local craft that deserves to be known.
