Authentic Sicilian cuisine on the Simpson Bay marina

Sale & Pepe (Italian for salt and pepper) is one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in Saint Martin. Run by chef Davide Zagami, a Catania native from Sicily, and his wife Scarlet, the address moved a few years ago into a beautiful contemporary marina-side villa in Simpson Bay, right after the Sister Sister bridge. The decor blends Sicilian ceramics, painted "Testa di Moro" heads, colorful banquettes and large windows opening onto the moored yachts.

The kitchen celebrates the Mediterranean and Sicily while making the most of the best Caribbean produce. The chef proudly carries his Catania fish market heritage: deep-water shrimp flash-frozen at sea, linguine alle vongole, rigatoni alla siciliana with Italian sausage, porcini risotto, fresh fish of the day, local spiny lobster and prime aged steaks. Desserts are house-made: tiramisu, cannoli, panna cotta. Solid Italian wine list and a full cocktail bar.

The atmosphere is both chic and easy-going. Inside, an air-conditioned dining room lit by woven pendant lamps, a bar dressed with Sicilian tiles and ceramic stools. Out on the marina terrace, you dine just steps from the boats, under string lights, with sailboats lined up in the background. It is a great spot for a romantic dinner, a birthday or a louder evening with friends. The restaurant also hosts private events and weddings.

Practical tip for travelers: Sale & Pepe is closed on Sundays and open Monday to Saturday from 12 pm to 11 pm, which makes it a good choice for both business lunches and late dinners after the beach. Reservations strongly recommended on weekends and in high season. On-site parking and easy access from Maho, Pelican Key or the Simpson Bay marina.
