Under SXM is one of Sint Maarten's most distinctive water activities: an underwater sculpture park in Little Bay designed as an art gallery, a cultural story and an artificial habitat for marine life. With mask and snorkel, visitors follow a guided trail above more than 300 sculptures set about 5 meters below the surface.
The experience starts with a short boat ride from Bobby's Marina in Philipsburg, which makes it convenient for cruise passengers and island visitors. Guides explain the scenes represented in the park, including Taino heritage, carnival, island resilience and local culture, while helping the group spot fish, coral, sponges and sometimes turtles depending on sea conditions.
It is a strong choice if you want a snorkeling trip that feels more meaningful than a standard reef stop. The full outing lasts about 2 hours, including roughly 45 minutes in the water. The site is weather and visibility dependent, so a morning slot is often a good idea when the sea is calm. Bring swimwear, a towel and reef-friendly sun protection.
Couples, families with comfortable swimmers, cruise travelers, snorkelers, culture-minded visitors and eco-tourism travelers.
Book early in your stay so you have flexibility if weather forces a change. Arrive ahead of time at Bobby's Marina, especially on cruise days, and keep your phone dry if you skip the photo option.
