Pelican Key Beach
Pelican Key Beach, the small beach in front of Flamingo Beach Resort
Pelican Key Beach is not the whole Pelican Key neighbourhood: this page is about the small sandy beach in front of Flamingo Beach Resort, on Billy Folly Road, between La Vista, Flamingo Beach and Simpson Bay Resort. It is a discreet beach, quieter than Kim Sha, with a resort feel and open views over the boats of Simpson Bay.
The beach is short, bordered by hotels, terraces and small resort facilities. Water entry is usually easy, with a gently sloping seabed and conditions that are often calmer than on exposed Atlantic-facing beaches. It works well for a relaxed swim, reading, lunch by the water or sunset. This is not a large wild beach: space is limited and the atmosphere depends a lot on nearby resort activity.
Access is via Billy Folly Road, around Flamingo Beach Resort / Pelican Beach Grill. Beaches are public in Sint Maarten, but access often runs through private properties: be respectful, use permitted walkways and order from the venue if you use loungers, umbrellas, restrooms or resort parking.
The main advantage is convenience: restaurant and beach bar, loungers when available, restrooms at the venues, accommodation steps away, and Simpson Bay close by for restaurants, boat trips and nightlife. For a full public beach with more space, Kim Sha and Simpson Bay Beach are better options.
Good to know: parking is limited outside the hotels, the sand strip can be narrow depending on swell and setup, and there is no official lifeguard station. Keep an eye on belongings, especially if you leave the beach for lunch or drinks.
