In Maho, you come to 3 Amigos when you are hungry, thirsty and ready to party, sometimes all at once. Set right across from Casino Royale, just steps from the village's bars and clubs, the spot has become a landmark over the years for travelers and locals alike. It runs hard from 11 am to 2 am, seven days a week, without a break.

The visual identity is instantly recognizable: a giant mural of a blue-eyed Catrina, hand-painted bright flowers, multicolored fairy lights overhead, worn-in leather banquettes and big raw-wood tables. On the plate, it is unapologetic Tex-Mex: al pastor or shrimp tacos, XL burritos, enchiladas baked with cheddar, loaded nachos and the house specialty, sizzling fajitas served on their smoking cast-iron plate, in chicken, beef, shrimp or combo versions. Everything is prepared on site every morning with no trans fats, and the Daily Herald has voted the place best Mexican on the island multiple times.

The bar is the other big draw. Margaritas flow in pitchers, frozen or on the rocks, in strawberry, mango, passionfruit or jalapeño flavors for the brave. The tequila list is one of the longest on the island. By day, multiple screens broadcast the big games (NFL, NBA, European soccer) in sports-bar mode. After dark, the lights dim, the tables clear, a DJ takes over and 3 Amigos turns into a tropical club until closing time.

keep Taco Tuesday in mind, when part of the menu goes on a promo deal, plus the early-evening happy hours. No reservation needed for drinks, but it is wise to book a table for dinner in high season. Very casual dress code. Free parking in the Maho lot right next door.
