Long Beach (Baie Longue)

Terres Basses, French side of Saint-Martin

The hidden gem of Terres Basses

Baie Longue lives up to its name: it is one of the longest beaches on Saint-Martin, a ribbon of fine, pale sand stretching for nearly a kilometre along the western tip of the island. Set in the highly residential Terres Basses neighbourhood on the French side, it offers a setting that is both exclusive and natural, far from the bustle of the more popular beaches.

What immediately sets Baie Longue apart is its peaceful atmosphere. The beach is rarely crowded, even in peak season. Visitors come here to enjoy the quiet, stroll barefoot through a postcard-perfect landscape and swim in beautifully clear blue water. The soft, even sand slopes gently into the sea, and the shallow waters near the shore are perfect for a relaxed paddle.

The scenery stretches out long and gentle, fringed by low tropical vegetation and a few discreet properties in the background. The late-afternoon light is especially lovely here, bathing the bay in golden and copper tones that make it a prized spot for watching the sunset.

On the practical side, Baie Longue is a public beach, but access is through the private residential estate of Terres Basses. You need to pass a security checkpoint at the entrance to the neighbourhood and simply state that you are heading to the beach: entry is granted without any conditions.

Baie Longue is the perfect beach for those seeking serenity, a pristine natural setting and the feeling of having found a slice of paradise all to themselves.
